Read the Sookie Stackhouse Novels by Charlaine Harris. They’re about a 20 something year old girl who is telepathic and catches the eyes of a few vampires in her small town. Vampires just made themselves known in the world and other supernatural things pop up, like werewolves and so on. Sookie uses her abilities to help out some vampires and people but gets in a shit load of trouble all of the time. Plus there is a thousand year old vamp named Eric who was a viking in his old life; he’s really sexy.
The show True Blood is extremely loosely based on the books, but the novels are so much better. There is some sexual content in the books, so if you’re not comfortable with that you should pass. Otherwise I think you would really like them. The amount of things that Stephanie Meyer stole from these books makes me barf. You’ll like these books so much more than Twilight; they are very much more sophisticated and for a person looking for something more mature.
