Vegetable Juicing: Can you help a newbie?

I am a “newbie” to vegetable and fruit juicing. I have a basic centrifugal Black and Decker Juice Extractor (received as a gift 6 years ago). My interest in juicing has peaked in that my health and well-being has diminished since I had my 2 children (I gained 60 lbs. during those 3 years and have just recently lost it all). I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and have since been placed on Lyrica. I definitly do not want to remain on a drug so I have been researching the benefits of eating organically and juicing and feel that this may help “heal” my body. However, a lot of websites out there dedicated to juicing claim that you need a “twin gear” juicer or a more expensive juicing machine otherwise you aren’t going to get the most nutritional benefit from the vegetables and fruit. I don’t have the money to buy a new machine. Is my modest centrifugal juicer going to give me the benefits of juicing? If so, are there any juice recipes that you might recommend? Thank you!

You need to first make sure you are dealing with Fibromyalgia. It’s a condition that’s way over diagnosed by doctors who do not search thoroughly for a true cause for these symptoms. Have you had blood tests done to look for other medical conditions? Who diagnosed you with Fibromyalgia? How many appointments had you had with this doctor before the diagnosis? The symptoms of Fibromyalgia mimic so many other conditions and you may have something much more harmful going on.

It’s also much better to eat the vegetable and fruit whole. You lose a lot of the rough and other nutrients when you juice the fruit.

I don’t think that vegetable juice is going to heal whatever is going on.

My recommendations would be to exercise 20-30 minutes each day, drink 8 glasses of water a day, get 8-10 hours sleep a night, eat 5 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables. You should also have your vitamin levels tested regularly, especially vitamin D, iron and B12.
