Country Kitchen Decorating Is Easy And Rewarding
When it comes to decorating a home, everyone has their own preferences. However, you would be hard-pressed to find many who do not like the cozy, welcoming atmosphere of a country-style kitchen. The kitchen area is often considered to be the heart of the home. It is here where the family most often congregates to enjoy good food and good conversation. If you’re looking to incorporate an old-time country look and charm in your kitchen, here are some ideas and tips to get you started.
Country Style Brings the Farm to Mind
You often find a good deal of early American character in a country-style kitchen. A country décor can make you think of a farmhouse, and it’s actually typical to see roosters, cows, hens, pigs, and other farm animals on display. Often, the theme will focus on a particular animal. Sometimes, however, you’ll see a combination of animal used, displayed in various locations around the room.
Central to the Theme Is the Kitchen Table
A country-themed kitchen tends to be one big room. If there’s no separate dining area, the table may actually be in the kitchen itself. This is why it’s essential to have country-style tables and chairs. Cushioned or decorated seats are options for your high-backed wooden chairs. Try to find a solid wood table that displays visible knots from the tree the table was made from, and you will create even more old-time charm. Complete the furnishings with a hutch or buffet.
Antique Touches Add Charm
The best part about a country-style kitchen is that many of the accessories you need can be found at flea markets and garage sales for very little money. You can create a look of years gone by at grandma’s house by adding an old butter churn or iron skillet to the décor. An old butter mold can be displayed on the countertop, while you hang old cast-iron skillets in varying sizes on a wall. If the accent or trivet looks as though it came from a long time ago, it will work perfectly in this type of décor.
Carry Through with a Theme
If you pick a central theme for the room, be sure to carry it throughout. For instance, if you settle on roosters, then be sure to use them everywhere. Add rooster-patterned cookie jars, canisters, hot pads, dish towels, clocks, and more.
Coordinate Your Windows
For the windows, use curtains that coordinate with the colors in the room. Common colors in a country décor include rustic hues like dark red or rust, golden yellow, blue, dark green, and brown. Go with a solid color or choose a pattern that complements the rest of the décor. Another option is wood shutters, which go perfectly with this type of decorating style.
Choose Lighting with Charm
Nothing adds more charm than a wrought-iron chandelier. Although most chandeliers wouldn’t work in a country décor, this style is neither too elegant nor too dressy. Hung over the table, this type of fixture will only add to the comfortable and cozy atmosphere.
For a finishing touch, place a basket filled with pine cones and other natural foliage or fresh fruit in the center of the table. Now your charming country kitchen is complete! A country style can bring not only charm and beauty but the warm of family gatherings into your home.
