How mutch food (cup wise) should an average size cat eat a day?

Are average Male tabby cat cannot stop eating, If we fill the bowl to the brim it will be gone in 2 days!!,, and I am not going to do that any more beucase the cat gets horrible gas and will get fat.
So I have purchased an automatic feader to dispense food to him is 1/4 a cup a day 3times enough or should there be more?

If your cat is getting gas from your cat food you are giving it, your cat may not be getting the right nutrients from the food. Check the ingredients on the lable of your cat food bag and see if within the first three ingredients there is a REAL type of meat such as chicken or fish. If it says something like chicken meal, that does not count. If the first ingredient on the list is some type of grain, then that is not a good type of cat food.

As for how much cat food to give your cat, here is a list of ages with how much to feed them.

Kittens 3 to 6 weeks receive 5 meals a day. They are given 1/4 to 1/3 cups of dry cat food.

Kittens 7 weeks to 6 months are given 4 meals a day. They are given 1/3 to 3/4 cups of dry cat food.

Adolescents 6 months to 1 year are given 3 meals a day which is gradually reduced to 2 meals a day. They are given 1/2 to 1 cup of dry cat food.

Adults 1 to 7 years are given 2 meals a day. they are fed 1/2 to 1 cup of dry cat food.

Seniors starting as 7 to 8 years are given 3 to 4 meals a day. They are fed 1/2 to 3/4 cups of dry cat food.

Geriatric 10 to 12 years and older are fed 1 to 2 meals a day. The are fed 1/2 to 3/4 cups of dry cat food.
