Xmas Candies You Can Make at Home
There is nothing people like more at Christmas that giving thoughtful gifts to loved ones. Gifts can be expensive however, especially if you have a big family or lots of friends. So why not make something that is cheap but no less well received like candy. Here are a couple of recipe ideas from IWOOT.
Fudge. Here’s whats needed
• A heavy non-stick large saucepan
• A sweets thermometer
• Multiple baking trays
• 1lb fine white sugar, ½ pint semi-skimmed milk, 2oz soft butter, 14oz condensed milk.
Method: Place all the ingredients into the pan and melt very slowly whilst stirring. The mixture should start to become a rich creamy-brown colour as it approaches 115oC on the thermometer. Remove from the heat source and keep stirring as the mixture cools down until it becomes too tough to continue. Pour mixture into the baking trays, smooth out and leave to set. When cooled, divide into squares and share out
Choc Chip Cookies. This is what you will need
• Bowl for mixing
• Grease-proof paper
• Baking trays
• 4.5.5oz flour, 2.5oz butter, 1 egg, 2oz brown sugar,2oz caster sugar, 4oz choc chips, ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Method: Add sugar, flour, bicarbonate of soda, butter and vanilla extract into a bowl and mix together well with a spoon or using your hands. Throw in the egg and mix until you reach a tacky consistency. Make some small balls out the mixture (about the size of a ping pong ball) and places them on the grease-proof paper which should be placed over a baking tray. Leave a good couple of inches between each ball as they will spread out and expand. Cook for around 12 mins in the oven at 180 oC, but keep checking they don’t burn as every oven varies.
