How do you safely clean a wood cutting board?
Doesn’t the wood hold bacteria in it? Are there any tips to maintaining a kitchen cutting board over time?
I’m surprised at all the differing ways people clean them and maintain them! Soap, salt, lemon, bleach, vegetable oil. I’m buying a new wood cutting board and I really appreciate hearing from those of you who use your cutting board regularly and have also had the same one for ages and have it in great condition. Thanks for all your replies!
I don’t use my wooden board for any raw meat or fish. I use a plastic one that goes right into the dishwasher. I do use the wooden one for fruit, veggies, cooked meats. A good wash in hot soapy water with a brush is all that’s really needed. If you want to you can rub it down with olive oil to help protect it.
