What is the best cordless drill to give as a birthday present to my Dad on his 60th birthday?
He’s pretty handy with DIY, and his trusty old Black & Decker is giving lots of trouble, (rechargeable battery-wise) and technology’s moved on these 20-odd years.
What should I look for, in a good (not “professional”) handy drill please?
M goodness, – how do I choose a best answer from so many excellent ones? ! – I’ll leave it to voting, I think, but will begin at Wickes, then off to Screwfix.

The Wickes professional range is reasonably priced and very good. Plenty of power and the batts last. The new technology is lithium (Li-ion) batteries, but these are still very expensive. They are similar to mobile phone batts as they can be recharged at any stage, whereas ni-cad have to be fully discharged before recharging.
