Can Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS) reduce the total dissolved solids (TDS) in water?

I am doing an experiment with Solar Water Disinfection. I am looking at different digital water testing meters that measure the purity of water using parts per million, or ppm. The ppm in water would tell me the ratio of the total amount of solids in the water to the water as a whole. But SODIS disinfects the water. It deactivates the bacteria and pathogens in it, and I don’t know if it affects the TDS at all. In my experiment, I need to somehow compare the water before it is disinfected and after it is disinfected. I’m not sure if this digital water testing meter would help me do that, since it measures the total dissolved solids, not microorganisms. Is there anything that is not too expensive that could allow me to make this comparison? Do you think I could use this meter even though it doesn’t measure microorganisms? I really need help. I’m purchasing my materials right now and I have no idea what to do.

Hi, I do not think you will see TDS change after solar disinfection, however you might see some reduction in suspended solids. Experiments I have run over the past 6 years in the field in Uganda, often showed a drop out if fine, almost invisible particulate as it coagulated in some fashion with the UV or more likely heat effect of the sun. Bottled water that was quite clear when set out in the sun, often had a very fine precipitate in the bottom at the end of the day. Not sure if this helps but good luck with your experiments.
