Will unused electronic kitchen appliances get bad.?

Me and my fiance are going to get married in one year.And we want to make sure that we have prepared to start a new life together happily.So we started buy new things for our house.We have bought Blenders,Oven,Rice cookers etc….These things are kept in their own packings.I want to know whether these electronic things get spoiled without using for nearly one year,We have not used it even once,It is new…..
Please clear my doubt.Will it get damaged or is it safe to keep ………..URGENT

It is shocking to see the number of misinformed answers here, but not surprising considering the awful condition of education in this country.

NO, electronic appliances do NOT typically “go bad” from non-use, especially if they are new and kept in original containers. You must realize that, except for vacuum tubes and old-fashioned film-capacitors, almost nothing electronic has a short shelf-life.

Motors are made from magnets and wire. unless the magnets are very cheap, they will not lose sufficient magnetic force to stop operating during storage, even after decades of non-use.

Copper wire cannot rust since it has no iron, so it will still conduct electricity a century from when it was made.

Capacitors, resistors and other film-components can degrade from excess heat, but that would have to be a very high heat over a long time; much higher than the components would experience in a package.

Some switch components ( like the on / off buttons) MAY be made from cheap Tin alloys or ferrous connectors. Even though those CAN rust, they typically will still operate. At worst, you might have to “exercise” a potentiometer by rotating it back-and-forth rapidly for a few seconds. That cleans off rust and dust that might affect function. But any new switch will last for decades so long as it is used at the proper voltage and amperage.

Exceptions:
Moisture CAN degrade electronic devices. Here is where the packaging helps. So long as electronic devices are kept DRY and away from cycles of cold and warmth that cause condensation, then moisture is not likely to cause problems.

Since you mention several food appliances, I should point out that the biggest danger of storing them is contamination, not electronic degradation. It is far more likely that an appliance that has been unpackaged and used, even once, could develop bacterial contamination. Of course, scrupulous cleansing will eradicate that problem.

New appliances are packaged so that they can travel overseas and remain in warehouses or on shelves for decades without problems. They are protected against impacts by padding, protecting against moisture infiltration by plastic bags, and protected against condensation by desiccants.

So, don’t worry about your appliances not working. Worry about keeping them clean, dry and cool. You might also worry about how new appliances might seem more attractive or make old appliances seem obsolete. Other than that, no worries!
