Will buying just the cone filter and keeping the stock pipe be as effective compared to a whole system?

I want to buy a cold air intake, but i have been told that if you just buy the cone filter and attach it, it is basically the same. I have a prelude and i do not have the money to buy the whole kit and if i just buy the filter and add it while taking out the original filter, will it be the same (in performance) as buying the whole kit?

Buying just a cone filter will do almost nothing for your car. A full cold air intake (especially one with the hardpoints for the appropriate sensors) are much better for your car.
