Omnibus Spending Bill Drives GOP Up The Wall
It is time to work out the numbers for the brand new fiscal year, and Democratic senators have brought a $1 trillion omnibus spending bill to the floor that has Republicans seeing red, reports College News. The almost 2,000-page omnibus threatens to drown readers in verbiage. That’s all the more room for 20,000-plus earmarks, accounts indicate. The omnibus bill
The omnibus got a typical answer from Sen. John Thune. (R-S.D.) The Republican stance on spending was reflective. Sen. Thune says the bill is just “reckless spending” while stating that the Republicans believe the bill shouldn’t even have to be voted on as Senate Democrats insist the us government needs the $1.27 trillion to run off of.
All about the omnibus bill
According to the Washington Post, $668 billion of the omnibus spending bill is slated for Pentagon spending. On the domestic front, $43 billion would be set aside for the Department of Homeland Security, $10 billion would go to Border Patrol, and state and local police force agencies would receive $3.8 billion. There might be some benefits for college students too. About $25 billion would go to financial aid for students.
Bill would have $29 billion more if the President had a say
Amazingly, the omnibus is reportedly $29 billion lower that President Obama’s original request. All experts looking at austerity methods said it was a bad idea although the omnibus plan would be keeping spending at the same level as the last fiscal year. If austerity measures don’t start, then by 2035 the national debt can be triple what it is now. That is just 25 years to triple the $13.8 trillion deficit.
Everyone blaming the other
It may be easy for concerned citizens to understand why massive increases in deficit spending will do nothing to bail the United States out of its debt, but based upon upon voting records, the Republicans who are complaining about the stratospheric number of earmarks in the omnibus spending bill are guilty of similar mathematical lunacy. Each and every bit of respect Americans have for elected officials will disappear along with pork projects if the United States government goes bankrupt.
