Government Of Egypt Handed To Military As Hosni Mubarak Resigns
Protesters all over Egypt are rejoicing, as the victory they sought seems to have been delivered. Throngs of people started cheering as it was released that Hosni Mubarak resigns. Shortly before it was announced, it was confirmed that Mubarak had left Cairo. He and his family left for Sharm el-Sheikh, a resort town within the Sinai Peninsula where they have a trip home. Vice President Omar Suleiman announced he had resigned and left government to the military. People in the country would have taken out huge personal cash loans to help finance their cause; now they don’t have to because they got the results they were searching for. Governmental powers placed in hands of Egyptian army
Al Jazeera explained that protestors in Egypt were given what they wanted after a couple weeks of protests as Hosni Mubarak resigned. There was a speech distributed by Mubarak Thursday that worried protestors that he would never be willing to leave causing force of it. However, the next morning his resignation was released. The Supreme Council was given Egypt as the governing body of the Egyptian military according to Vice President Omar Suleiman who released Mubarak’s resignation.
After Mubarak leaves, announcement is made
The announcement came from Vice President Omar Suleiman after confirmations that Mubarak was left. Cairo no longer had Mubarak or his family living there. Military airport took Mubarak away. Now, he is on the coast of the Red Sea in the Sinai Peninsula in Sharm el-Sheikh. There is a getaway estate there owned by Mubarak and family. Protestors refused to accept the concessions from Mubarak. They thought he would never resign from his position. MSNBC reports that Mohamed El-Baradei said the resignation was “the greatest day in my life” as Egypt has been “liberated after decades of repression” as the opposition to Mubarak figure.
Hoping military can help new government transition happen
Egypt’s army has made it clear that its priority was for the situation to remain calm and orderly. In times of crisis, the federal government is given broad powers with the emergency powers laws, reports ABC. This is what the military will repeal. Mubarak got into his position after Anwar Sadat was assassinated causing the law to pass. Many in Tahrir Square, or Liberation Square, are being really joyous. The anger that Mubarak was being defiant is now gone.
