Deep Frying with the Presto Fry Daddy Question?
I just bought a Presto 05420 FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer. I used it the other day to fry some candy bars and Oreos. I have had these at carnivals before and i noticed that the the fry daddy seemed to fry very fast. The batter would get golden brown then crispy brown within 30-45 seconds no the 2-3 minutes recipes call for leaving the candy bar or oreo not as melted as I’d like.
I used Aunt Jemima pancake mix as the batter and just dipped them in it then dropped them in the fryer. I don’t know if Aunt Jemima is the wrong thing to use or if there is a better way to coat the things I fry. Any help would be apreciated Thanks.
The deep fryer reaches “optimal temperature automatically” which i think is between 375-400 so i can’t control it with a setting. Would it be my best bet to just plug it into a surge protector and flick it on and off to keep it at a lower temperature range around 350?
Cool any suggestion for a good(cheap) thermometer?
You might want to get a thermometer and control oil temp.
My fry-daddy heats up to frying temp a lot quicker than the wait time recommended by the manual. The oil is probably a little too hot for your recipe.
ADD: That’s why I mentioned a thermometer. My Fry-Daddy reachs 375 very quickly, and will go over 400 by the recommended wait time. I would heat oil to just above receipe and unplug when you start each batch. Residual heat will easily last 2-3 minutes, or easy to plug back if temp drops too far.
