What Quartz Countertops Have To Offer

Homeowners who are looking for a trendy alternative to granite will find quartz countertops very beautiful. These are one of the most practical made-made countertop materials on the market today. This material has a lrage proportion of quartz crystals, a material that is mined from quartz mines. Typical crushed quartz makes up 95% of the material with the other 5% being polymers.. These components, when combined and infused, will make a material that will require little maintenance and also scratch-free. A wide range of colors is possible because of the way it is manufactured. Deep black, translucent white and golden brown are some of the possible colors. These variations in colors depend on the size of quartz and quantity of granules used in the manufacturing process. Smaller crystals will produce a uniform look while larger crystals will create a spotted look.

The first step in building quartz countertops is grinding the pure quartz crystals. The ground quartz can range in size from fine, like sand, to coarse, like gravel. The crystals are then mixed with resin in small amounts to make a strong bond. It’s at this point that natural color pigments are added. Along with the addition of small pieces of glass and other metals, this is where the unique patterns are made. Still, the end-product is made of 97% quartz crystals. The next step is to press the combined mixture into a mold to produce a slab of the required shape and thickness. Curing in an oven follows and then the cooling down of the slab. The resultant product is glossy and shiny which requires no more finishing. It can be honed at this stage if a matte finish is desired.

One of the more notable advantages of using quartz countertops includes their high resistance to damage. The method of their manufacture results in a very uniform and consistent surface, making it very impervious to stain, rusts, scratches, cracks and dents. This feature makes the countertops very strong and durable, that needs very little maintenance. And the wide range of colors available means that there will almost certainly be one to suit your style.

The outer surface of quartz countertops is just one of their best qualities. The most important is the integrity of the countertops themselves. They are virtually indestructible because of the way they were manufactured. Their overall strength is consistent all throughout the surface which makes them more stable than hard stones. Of all the kitchen countertop options available, maybe quartz is worth considering.
