Tea Kettles – Buying Guide
Brewing a cup of tea in the old-fashioned way always gives me plenty of satisfaction! Be it an electric tea kettle or a stovetop kettle, people are left baffled when choosing one from the wide variety available. I’ve put together some helpful (hopefully!) pointers that should assist you in buying a tea kettle.
- Determine whether you want an electric tea kettle or a stovetop tea kettle. The difference between the two is the time taken to boil the liquid and of course, the way they work. The advantage of an electric tea kettle is that it looks very much like a modern Electric Tea Maker, so it’s apt for a home with contemporary kitchenware.
- Another criterion I considered when buying my tea kettle was the material. Pick a stainless steel tea kettle if durability is your prime concern. Copper and cast iron tea kettles require more maintenance.
- I recently discovered that the kind of tea to be brewed is also a factor to consider when buying a tea kettle. For instance, I prefer having green tea for which water should be at a lower temperature. So, it wouldn’t do if my Electric Tea Kettle does not have a water temperature gauge. On the other hand, for black tea, water should be piping hot when the tea bags are added in.
- Sometimes, the style and design of a stovetop or electric tea kettle can be a decisive factor. You can simply choose a kettle to complement your tea sets. A glossy finish can add bonus points for good looks!
- Don’t forget to look for heat-resistant handles. As I’m pretty clumsy, a leak-proof or non-spill spout with a cover becomes mandatory in my case! A kettle that whistles when it reaches boiling point is fun too! If you feel it’s an annoying feature, you can skip it.
