Music has an essential contribution in the ancestry of all countries, including Spain; the Roman culture has been its basic influence for hundreds of years and it also paved the way for the introduction of Ancient Greek music. One interesting music and dance form is the Flamenco which was widely considered to be Spain’s national dance due to the connection people have made of Spanish culture and Flamenco. Ironically, Flamenco is actually not popular in all of Spain; it’s only knownin a certain parts, particularly the Andalusian region of Spain and in a few of the smaller surrounding regions. Flamenco was not a music or dance style that was massively famous or even acknowledged in Spain.

Spain’s Flamenco, an Andalusian accustomed folk music, is divided into three parts; it elements are the dance, the song, and also the musical accompaniment produced by the guitar. The Flamenco’s rapid, sweeping movements and quick foot work has been adapted by many dance cultures worldwide. Flamenco also symbolizes the complex music and tradition of Spain; however, studies exploring the origins of Flamenco until today have inconclusive findings.

Flamenco originate from the lower levels of society in Andalusia; it was a hard period and a number of people people have prejudgments against Gypsies, which many believe have an influence on the origins of Flamenco. To think that a lot of people have no respect for Gypsies is an oversimplication; because of their lifestyle and culture, gypsies were discriminated and regarded as an extremely low social class by many countries around the world, including Spain. Since Flamenco is being performed by the poor, upper class society and historians put in little time in recording and studying it, thus very little written records can be read about it. Another reason for difficulties in determining the origin of Flamenco is that the lower class people have no education and cannot write and they just kept the music through oral traditions; worst of all, the Jews, Muslims and Gitanos, which make up the lower class, were being tortured throughout the period of Spanish Inquisition.

Even in this generation, researchers, historians and experts are still discussing and researching to find out the exact history and ancestry of Flamenco; it’s not even found out where Flamenco got its name. In fact, it did not just prevail but it flourished and really grown into a widely studied music and dance style until today.
