Will turbo yeast make wine if I add it to grape juice?
The yeast is from Mile Hi Distilling. I got a one gallon jug of 100% grape juice from wal-mart and it is value time. I added more sugar too it so it would be stronger alcohol. Then I put the yeast in a small glass of hot sink water with a little bit of sugar and stirred it up. Then I added that mixture to the jug of juice, but nothing has happened yet. There is no fermentation. Is this yeast only meant for making a distilling mash? It is frustrating. I added some bakers yeast after that, but nothing is happening still.
It will ferment. The thing to be concerned for is the quality of the ferment/wine. This is an aggressive yeast and it will produce alcohol but not much ion the way of wine flavor. But in all things we can learn a lesson. Be sure to keep a journal so you have future reference. With that type of yeast the preservatives will no stop it from fermenting out the sugar. But it may require some nutrient to function optimally. With both types of yeast you will definitely get results.
