Creating Vintage Glamour Images

Making old-school glamour photographs is not only amusing yet rather challenging, as it demands good knowledge of numerous nuances e.g. posing, lighting and composition, let alone the unique spirit of golden age of glamour images. The fun part is that you will be able to turn your model into a glamorous star like the ones of good old days, placing her into a setting full of contrast and drama. For a glamour photographer it should be quite doable to make an old-school picture using some thoughtful lighting, posing and accessories.

Almost 90% of work here is done by arranging lights properly. Studio is the perfect place for shooting such Glamour Photographs as various lighting from different angles are required. In order to achieve that shadow under the nose kind of lighting conditions, youd have to use some strong source with powerful key light cast at a sharp angle as if your model were in a spotlight. Moreover, you would need two fill lights to shine on the model. As a must-have finisher, backlight will make the model stand out from the background.

Color mode is another important factor in Artistic Glamour Photography, and black and white is the perfect mode to create an elegant, stark look to bring forward the nostalgia of the golden age. In addition, you should concentrate on contrast and edginess; in order to show the facial features in their whole splendor and to preserve the details, fill lights shouldnt be stronger than a third from the key light intensity.

Posing is of great importance in creating vintage glamour images, as the subject in the past rarely looked straight into the camera, so in order to give the golden age look, you are a photographer should make the model look to the side with a mysterious expression. Vintage glamour image is not about natural appearance but about drama in creating a classic look. For retro beauty photography the primary subject is the model rather than her garment and entourage; so try to minimize the glamorous impact that trinkets should have and try to concentrate on the girl instead. If you are shooting black and white to create a classic look, you can choose the attire that is plainly black and white so that it is easier to create contrast. Refrain from many colors, as they will fade out because of intense light; in addition, the make up should look matte in order to absorb hard light.
