GE, Water Filter Desalination Plants thats Making a Difference.
It is a widely known fact that over 1.5 billion people in this modern world are still suffering from lack of access of clean drinking water. United Nations survey has reported that millions of people are dying everyday from thirst and consumption of polluted water. So what can we do to help? Many people have there own way of helping in their own various ways, however for an organization like GE, water filter desalination plants are being set up all over North Africa. This new initiative was set up GE Ecomagination and these desalination plants are making a huge impact on the health and well-being of millions of lives in Algiers.
Located between the Sahara desert and the Mediterranean Sea is Algiers. Algiers is a widely populated area with over 5 million inhabitants. It is here that people are suffering extensively from the lack of clean drinking water. As part if the GE Ecomagination sector GE water filter desalination plants been built to help relieve the problem. This project which cost the cost the company US $250 million is currently supplying pure water to 1.5 million Algerians. This enormous project was built using a reverse osmosis membrane approach. Round the clock this method is able to exert 200,000 cubic metres of potable water from the Mediterranean on a daily basis. It is the hope that by the year 2010 GE water filter desalination plants would be set up all over Algeria whereby producing a total of 2.3 billion cubic meters of potable water daily.
Providing and purifying water in third world countries is great and needed but closer to home people are also in need of filtered water. Many households in the United States are now becoming aware that our very own water from taps isnt been filtered 100%. While it is arguable that water we drink is indeed certified, when examined closer people will notice that disease carrying bacteria still exist. This means that the water we drink and bath in is water which has been recycled from waste water. This may seem slightly disgusting but the process of purification here it quite revolutionary. However, in saying this there are increasing complaints of people falling sick from drinking water from our taps at home. This is not a new issue but more and more people nowadays are feeling the need to further purify there water in homes. According to scientists and plumbers, knowing the health risks associated with contaminated water, installing water filters at home may well be a wise investment for your familys health.
Whole house filters, faucets filter, undersink filters and countertop filters are just a few filter options available for household use. The purpose of these filters is to further filter down water coming through your pipes with any existing disease carrying bacteria and sediments. These filters are known to also filter out harmful chemicals such as chlorine, lead and fluoride. When too much chemicals are added to your water people are bound to fall sick, in some recent research water chemical contamination has even been linked to cancer. This in itself is a growing threat to many health enthusiasts who are encouraging the use of some sort of filtration system in your household.
The fact of the matter is that no matter where you are in the world everyone has the right to clean drinking water. Sadly this is not the fact in most cases because people do indeed consume contaminated water buy on varying degrees.
